WordPress Installation with Softaculous
Before you start the installation make sure that you have configured correctly a domain/subdomain in the hosting account.
What is Softaculous
Softaculous is an Auto Installer program, tightly integrated with cPanel. Softaculous help users to install applications (currently over 400) by the click of a button while taking care of the complete lifecycle of the application from install to backup and update.
Login to your CPanel and click Softaculous link:
Inside Softaculous find and click the WordPress icon:
Click Install Now button to start configuration process:
Choose Protocol – select
http:// and if you buy SSL certificate you can enable
Choose Domain - Please choose from the dropdown menu the domain to install WordPress.
In Directory - to install at
http://mydomain/dir/ just type dir. To install in the root folder
http://mydomain/ leave this empty.
Site Name and Site Description – enter site title and description or leave the defaults – both can be changed later from admin panel.
Enable Multisite (WPMU) – check only if you are going to use WordPress MultiSite (many sites in one WP instance). If you a developing a single site – leave unchecked.
Admin Username – replace the default admin with different word or string.
Admin Password – generate strong password containing both upper and lower case letters, numbers and special symbols of at least 12 characters.
Admin Email – Managing all URLs from one domain is considered a good professional practice. Also it is very useful for retrieving forgotten password, receiving special announcements, register gravatar account and more.
Choose Language – select from the dropdown menu the language of the admin panel.
Limit Login Attempts – if you check the box a Loginizer plugin will be installed and activated to reduce the number of brute force login attempts. There are a number of ways to enhance WordPress security so we suggest leaving at this step the box unchecked. If you decide to use this plugin you can install it later.
Click on the plus sign (+) to list all available options.
Also hover the mouse over the symbol (i) to get additional information in the pop-up text box.
Database Name – this is random generated name so you can leave it as is.
Table Prefix – anything different than the default wp_ is ok.
Disable Update Notifications – it is much better to receive notification and update than to miss the update and get hacked – leave it unchecked.
Auto Upgrade (dilemma) – if you auto update the core some plugins might crash because of incompatibility. Use only the highly necessary and maintained plugins from renowned developers and auto update both the core and the plugins.
Since this is new installation leave the box checked.
Similar arguments can be applied to the next two options - Auto Upgrade WordPress Plugins and Auto Upgrade WordPress Themes
The last three options are backup related. Since hosting service provides daily backup it looks unnecessary Softaculous to generate application backups also.
For Automated backups select from the download menu Don't backup option.
If not selected, the default theme will be installed and later from the WP admin panel you can test as many themes as you like.
Leave the email field blank because Softaculous will send an installation report to the account email.
Click the Install button to start the process.
Few seconds later in the main window you get report for completed installation.
This is the report sent to account email:
