Email Account Setup on Android 5

In previous articles we have shown that to create an email account we need to have a mailbox created and the following information:

Username - usually the full name of the email account, like john.doe@example.com Password - the email account's password Mail server information:

NOTE: We always recommend using an encrypted SSL/TLS protocol.

In this article we will help you create a mail account on a mobile device running Android 5 OS.

We are starting the configuration process by choosing Settings and tap Accounts link in section Personal.

Tap on Add account:

Depending on the type of our mail account (IMAP or POP3) on the next screen, we select the appropriate option:

  • Personal (IMAP)
  • Personal (POP3)

Enter the full email address: example@your-domain.tld

IMPORTANT: : in your configuration replace this example email with your real email address.

Tap NEXT and enter the email account's password:

Now enter all the information we mentioned at the beginning of the article (if IMAP):

  • Username: example@your-domain.tld
  • Password: email account's password
  • Server: imap-mail-server-name.tld
  • Port: 993
  • Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept All certificates)

IMPORTANT: Replace the example settings with your actual IMAP email account and the name of your IMAP mail server.

If the mailbox is POP3, enter the following information:

  • Username: example@your-domain.tld
  • Password: email account's password
  • Server: pop3-mail-server-name.tld
  • Port: 995
  • Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept All certificates)

Tap NEXT and configure the Outgoing server on the next screen:

  • Server: smtp-mail-server-name.tld
  • Port: 465
  • Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept All certificates)
  • Username: example@your-domain.tld
  • Password: email account's password

Tap NEXT to verify SMTP settings:

Enter the name of your account to finish the account setup:

Congratulations.

Your Android 5 mail account is ready to receive and send emails.
