Set up Mac Mail Account

When you open the Mail for the first time, it will suggest you create a new mail account.

The software will offer you a list of email providers whose accounts you can use and manage within its interface. In order to configure your custom mail account with HostPulse, use the last option Other Mail Account and click the Continue button:

If you have already created an email account and you want to add another one you must select Mail and click Add Account from the menu:

Enter а name, the full mailbox address and password on the next screen and click the Sign in button:

Because the account is not fully configured, we get an error message: Unable to verify account name or password. Enter the following information in the available fields:

  • Email Address: example@your-domain.tld
  • Username: example@your-domain.tld
  • Password: mailbox password.
  • Account Type: IMAP
  • Incoming Mail Server: imap-mail-server.tld
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp-mail-server.tld

WARNING: You need to replace the example mail address and server names with your correct account data.

Click Sign In button.

The warning on the next screen should not bother you because you are going to configure a secure TLS/SSL connection later.

Click the Continue button.

Select apps from the list that you can use with the new account and click the Done button.

Your email account has been created.

Mac Mail Secure Connections

Now let us configure our account to use secure IMAP and SMTP connections.

Select Mail > Preferences

Click Accounts icon and from the left sidebar select the account (Example) whose settings you are going to edit.

Click Server Settings button.

Uncheck the two boxes in front of the label automatically manage connection settings.

Select Advanced IMAP Settings.

Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) section

Enter the following information:

  • Port 993
  • Check the box in front of the label Use TLS/SSL
  • Authentication: Password

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) section

Enter the following information:

  • Port 465
  • Check the box in front of the label Use TLS/SSL
  • Authentication: Password

Click Save button.

If our mailbox is POP3

We are following exactly the same configuration steps changing only: - the port number to 995 for TLS/SSL - and the incoming server to pop3-mail-server.tld

Your email account is configured and ready to receive and send your emails.

Mac Mail offers many additional options and features, so we recommend you to take a look at them.
